Building Department

The Building Department oversees and approves all residential, commercial, and industrial construction within the Village.  The Department is committed to protect, maintain, and improve health, safety, welfare, and the quality of life for residents and businesses located in our Village through enforcement of the International Property Maintenance Code, State of Michigan construction codes and local ordinances established for those purposes.  

• All permits are issued by the Village of Stockbridge Building Department.

• Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing permits are issued by the village. 

• The Building permit application should be completed and submitted to the Village Offices with required attachments.  The appropriate fees will be calculated and will be due when you pick up your permit.  For further information contact Dwight Crow, Building Official at (517) 851-9362.

• All contractors and companies must apply for a permit to do business within the village.

• Driveway Permits are required when accessing County and State roads and are issued by Ingham County Road Commission at (517) 676-9722.

• Fence Permits  are required for the erection, alteration or placement of any fence within the Village.  The fence application fee is $65.  Submit a permit application with drawings and site plan showing property lines, fence placement, structure dimensions and picture of fencing materials with fee to the Village Manager/Zoning Administrator for approval.

• Sign Permits are required for the display, erection, alteration and placement of any signage including billboards and banners.  The application fee is $65 which includes the cost for zoning.  Submit a permit application with drawings and site plan with fee to the Zoning Administrator for approval. 

• Soil Erosion Permit or waiver must be obtained from Ingham County Drain Commission at (517) 676-8395.
